Congrats Grim! I'm very happy for you and your wife! You guys have a nice home to bring the child in.

We started looking at cribs today. They're so expensive for nice ones. Between the crib, a dresser, and the rails to convert it to a toddler bed and then a full size bed, it got up to $2,200. Just the crib was $800. Then I look on Wayfair and see some for like $250. There has to be a quality difference and not just a local price markup.

Congrats! I hope everything goes well!

Kinda funny because a family friend also recently announced a May baby upcoming, a girl.

wtf :o

Right, i’ve long since passed the age where this becomes good news ^_^'

For that much dough build your own crib, doesn’t look complicated. Or get a used one, who keeps them past child 2 anymore? $$$ for a crib would make sense if you were going to have 8 kids but you’re too modern by 5 or 6 kids ;)

Well most cribs are convertible these days, so they grow into a full size bed as the kid gets older, so they can literally last well into the kid's teens. That makes the money not as much of a big deal. But that only works if you get one that's quality enough to hold up that long. I don't know that we'll spend that much on the furniture we saw at that one store, but we'll probably spend more than the $160 and up that we've seen at some stores. There has to be a good middle ground. We've looked at a lot on Amazon, but review after review talks about how they arrived damaged.

And yeah, the plan is to stop at 2 kids lol.

Edit: And thanks, everyone. We're excited. I would like to point out that Dennis, Brock, and Lynnz all predicted that we'd have a baby in 2015. Just 4 years early, guys.

We found another store with good quality furniture. We bought a crib, dresser, night stand, mattress, and bookcase. It was a little over $2,200 for all of that. Kaylie's dad was nice enough to pay $1,000 of it, which was completely unexpected. This is his first grandchild, so I guess he's excited.

It'll be a month or more before it all comes in, but I'll post pictures when it does (if anyone cares).

Update on the furniture: We ordered everything on December 22nd, were told it would all be here in 6-8 weeks. It took like 12 weeks to get the crib, dresser, night stand, and one set of rails. It has now been a little over 16 weeks and our bookcase and the other set of rails still haven't come in. Kaylie is understandably livid. They called me today (they never call her because she's gotten progressively more mad every time she talks to them and they give us excuses for why it's taking so long) saying the bookcase shipped to them last Thursday. Still no word on the other set of rails. I haven't taken any pictures because everything hasn't come in and the baby's room is full of stuff we've gotten at showers, so it isn't ready to show you guys anyway.

Anyway, here's a picture from one of our baby showers yesterday.

Thanks guys. She's going to take off 8 weeks after the birth, and we found out today that her work is going to keep paying her salary and providing her health insurance during that time. I can't begin to explain how great that news is. I had been setting aside money every month with the expectation that she wouldn't get any pay during her time off (because the US sucks when it comes to maternity leave), but it wasn't going to be enough to fully replace her salary during that time. Now we can just hang on to it and use it towards daycare when she goes back to work (daycare is $150/week, kill me).

This will have to be good enough. Still need to put up some stuff. He's due in 5 days, so it won't be long now.

It has been a whirlwind 2 weeks. We went to the hospital May 27th at 3 pm and Kaylie was in labor. She labored for nearly 24 hours with baby Andrew being born at 2:40 pm on May 28th. He was 8 pounds, 0 ounces and 21 inches long. Delivery was difficult on him, so they kept him in the NICU for two days after we were discharged. He was born on a Tuesday (two weeks ago today), but we couldn't bring him home until that Saturday. He's healthy and doing well now.
