Game Sales and Freebies

Post by Sensor Echo » Mon May 27, 2013 8:17 pm

They had some good deals, but whenever they do, they get cleared out quickly. However, there are still 1200MSP cards on sale for $5 (normally $15). They're supposed to be exchanging MSP for dollars as part of moving on from using MSP in the first place, so free money? They may just leave it as MSP though, and even if it's sitting in your account as USD you can't get it back. Accounts and points balances will transfer to Xbox One if you want. :p Or buy some good XBLA stuff or DLC you missed.

Code required: Shifts from which are valid at different times, check http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/sho ... p?t=343916 for updates.

Re: Memorial Day Xbox sale at MicrosoftStore.com

Only skimmed a few posts in that thread since there are currently 197 pages, but it looks like people were buying tons of them (one guy said he had like 12,000 MSP) and Microsoft caught on and aren't honoring a lot of them and people don't know if they're getting refunds or not.

Yeah, some peoples is crazy.

Seems to be a pricing error, but: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=571377
Unsure if this is part of EA dropping Online passes or just another snafu but a lot of them have been reduced to free today.
Alice: Madness Returns - American McGee's Alice The first game in the Alice series, access it through the disc (was 800msp)
Bad Company 2 VIP (was 800msp)
Bulletstorm Online Pass (was 800msp)
Dragon Age: Origins - The Stone Prisoner (was 1200msp)
Dragon Age 2: The Black Emporium (was 800msp)
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Online Pass (was 800msp)
Mass Effect 2: Cerberus Network (was 1200msp)
Medal of Honor Online Pass (was 800msp)
SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED™ ONLINE PASS (was 800msp)
Skate 3: Skate Share Pack (was 800msp)
If you might want this content later, you should probably get it before they change their minds. ;) Everything requires actually owning the game though. American McGee's Alice is a whole game, not available for download otherwise (console), but you still need the disk for it's sequel. But I think they shut down servers in the Spring, so the online required stuff might still be playable for most of the next year.

================================================
Nintendo WiiU (basic) is on sale at Target for $240 ($60 off), and both Nintendoland and NSMBU are $40ea.

I'm not sure if this is a price mistake or part of the free games for XBL Gold members (which is not until next month), but Fable 3 is available for free for XBL Gold members right now. It's listed as $19.99, but choose to pay with MSP instead of $, and it's free.

Mind you, this exact thing happened with Fable 2, and they ended up reissuing the game with a different content ID.

Of course it's a game I already have. That sounds like a mistake.

Eh, download it now and if you ever sell your 360, you can sell the console as having the games you've downloaded to it, and sell disk games to amazon or what have you.

If anyone has Battlefield 3 for 360, but not the map packs, the Close Quarters pack is free for a little while. I need to try some BF. Halo (5) claims to be combat evolved again, and CoD isn't quite to my tastes, maybe BF4 can garner my attention.

Edit: I think I mentioned this the last time I bought points, but it's still the case, and I still laughed:
Notes about prepaid codes:

Xbox 360 console subscription codes are designed specifically for the Xbox 360 console and are not compatible with the original Xbox console.

If there weren't the need to transfer your gamertag from Xbox => 360, I would've been more inclined to buy a 360 earlier. Or if you could've played Xbox games online on 360. Not an issue for 360/PS3 owners this time. Sorry Wii => WiiU theoretical person.

Hmm, not a mistake? Fable 3 says it's free. Switching to MS points by pressing x is dumb, it took me awhile to figure that out and i've done it once before! Its free, why do i need to switch? I shouldn't need any "payment options" set up to download something free you morons.

Sell my 360? If i do it will be so long from now no one will care. I'm down to a ps3, 360, and an n64 that i would have gotten rid of already if it were entirely mine. Not that she's shown interest in it for years. Guess i should ask her? I'ts not the money, she's welcome to it. We just dont talk much is all. Anyway, that and a ps2 that's not entirely mine either, it was bought by my dad to use in the rv as primarily a dvd player but also for games. But he doesn't play and he bought a blu-ray theater system for it, so maybe its now redundant and inferior and i could take possession. My elimination of essential ps2 games for hd remakes of them or downloadable versions isn't quite complete however. So close, but not there. Makes it worse!

As soon as I'm able to finish all of the games I own that I haven't played/finished, I'll sell my 360 once I get the Xbox One. At $499, unless Kaylie or my parents decide to be super generous, it might be a little bit, especially since the money I currently have saved is going towards new tires. Gotta get off these snow tires that came with the car.

Ahh, fable 3 is free as part of Games With Gold. I thought that didnt start until July. 1 free game every 2 weeks, get each one while it is free or it is gone and replaced with the next.

Figures it's a game I've beat twice. It wasn't worth buying anyway; I borrowed it from a friend.

Thanks for the heads up on the BF3 DLC. I don't ever play BF3 unless I'm super bored with other FPS games, but I'll gladly take free DLC. The way they do BF3 is force you to download the DLC even if you don't buy it, so it was already on my hard drive anyway, so this just let me finally take advantage of it.

Yeah, I figured we'd get some B class games or really old A class. How many people own a 360 and not Halo 3? Since Halo 3, 360's gotten Halo Wars, ODST, Reach, Anniversary, and 4. Haven't there been three Assassin's Creed games since 2? Fable 3 wasn't exactly well lauded, it's had a sequel since release, and two more on the way. I can only imagine one of the other "free to gold members" games will be World of Tanks, which is free to play to begin with. PS+ clearly has a huge advantage with how long it takes to get and the quality of games, but still, a free game is nice and if there are 12 or even just the 10 as announced then that's still pretty nice. I know I'll be getting a few games I'd missed out on.

Fable: The Journey I think. It was maybe even a Kinect title? I don't know, no one talked about it. :p

Not a traditional Fable game, more a spin-off. Mini-games and such designed around Kinect rather than an open world RPG. So Fable 3 was the last "real" Fable game. At least as i recall it.

Oh yeah, I remember that. And now I remember why I didn't buy it. Kinect lol.

I don't like that they're forcing the Kinect on us with the Xbox One, but whatever. I wish Microsoft would've just owned up to the fact that Kinect is stupid.

Max Payne 3 $10 at Newegg for the next hour.

I bought the game twice last night, and apparently, not at all. Router dropped during the first attempt, so I tried again, and it said I ordered twice. I checked today, and they're both missing from my order history.

Better yet, GoG.com has Torchlight for free, and Alan Wake (series) for $4.48, and I can't buy it, because my credit card is frozen. Fucking fuck.

Edit: Well my card was neither frozen nor did it have a hold, but it had to be "refreshed", and immediately worked. Only had to wait on hold for a minute or two.

GoG, before I even bought anything, just for registering, added 11 other free games to my collection. Teenagent, Tyrian 2000, Lure of the Temptress (ooh, a lady /ladies man), Beneath a Steel Sky, Dragonshpere, Ultima 4: Quest of teh Avatar, Warsow, Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire, and Treasure Adventure Game, of which I've heard of Ultima 4. I looked through their entire 400+ list of games to see what else I might buy, and I did not choose any of those free ones because I did not imagine playing them. :p Psychonauts for $5 and a few others I all meant to play on Xbox, but I suppose I should see if they "activate in Steam", whatever the hell that is. ;)

Aren't you proud of me, Rocker? PC games for all!

I ended up not getting Max Payne 3. I came very close to buying it, but I just couldn't do it because I still have so many games to finish before the new Xbox comes out, and I don't really want to add to that list.

For the first week sale, I am going to buy Batman and Racthet. For the second week, I probably will go with Alice. 3 full games for under $20. 5 games if you consider Ratchet as 3 separate games. My only problem will be how to download all of this with my slow like a snail connection.

Send me Max Payne 3 for free. :P Otherwise, nah.

Speaking of free, have you tried out this Defense Grid: The Awakening game? I like free, but if it's garbage, I don't want to waste my time with it.

Edit: I have it downloading now, but after reading the description, it's a tower defense game. Like Starcraft, kind of? No thanks. I can't get into those games.

Starcraft is a bit more expansive, but yes, it is a boring tower defense game. I haven't tried it yet, but people say it's good. Good for a tower defense game. Not really what I feel like playing, but I'll download it.

If you want Max Payne, let me know your addy. Also note I'm lazy and it'll be a moment.
